The New World of Bullying

Ive recently found that there is this new trend of bullying that's going around. Its called social bullying. What? Something new for us as educators to have to deal with. As a social leader we must and desperately have to tackle this issue before it gets out of hand. But wait? With the advancement of technology, we are putting the actually device to commit the crime into the hands of the perpetrator with free range to explore and commit more and more social media bullying. This must stop. What do you think? How can we as educators stop this social media bullying when we are giving the students the tools to commit the crime? Talk to me.....

  1. Mr. Lewis- I hate to respond without a solution to the issue at hand, but I feel your pain. With the increasing technology in the classroom, specifically many schools going 1-1 with devices in the classroom, cyber bullying is at an all time high. One large issue is that schools lack the ability to fully censor the material kids using throughout the day. For example, www.facebook.com can be blocked on an ipad, but the app for Facebook cannot. Perhaps creating better blocks for some of these apps, preventing students from accessing these social sites throughout the day, would be a small start to a big problem.

    1. Yes I totally agree with you. What we are finding is that the monitoring and sensory of these sites are becoming more and more difficult. The firewalls set in place are being over turned and worked over. We need to really crack down on this issue because the problems are coming into our schools.

  2. Would like to see how you define social bullying and how it compares to other points of view. Do you have any links to colleagues also thinking about this topic? Will look forward to your updates.
